Hi,

I have a question about installing updates to the stable version of opensolaris
200805.
When I use pkg image-update, I would get the packages of the latest release
installed (update from snv_86 -> snv_9X). But that's not what I want to do.

On this site: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/documentation/apt_ips/
where the differences between apt-get and ips are explained, there is sth like
apt-get upgrade (note, not dist-upgrade) missing. apt-get upgrade updates the
package within the installed version (snv_86 -> snv_86 with sec fixes)

When I check on http://pkg.opensolaris.org/status, and I found that there are
several verions of ipkg for build 86, but I didn't find a fix for e.g.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-237965-1
The solution on this site says update to build snv_92, and there I wonder:

- wasn't opensolaris supposed to have a stable version that will get new
releases every 6 month(200805, 200811 ...), and I would be able to run this
stable version in a sense that there are updates available?

- do I need to update the complete OS to get a security fix?

- are there security fixes available for users who don't have a support
contract?

- if not by now, will there be updates for the stable release after 200811?

For me it feels strange, when I need to upgrade my system just to get some
fixes. I also wonder how I should keep a service running, when I need to reboot
every 2 weeks when the new build is out, to run the updates environment. Ok,
it's just a little website, but still, I wonder why I need to reboot that often
just for some updates.

Maybe I've overseen something in the documentation, but I just couldn't find
answers to those questions.

Regards
Sven Herzing
