I had this issue after upgrading from 5.0.2 to 5.1.3. The gui showed up as 5.0.2, nevertheless. Instead of an upgrade, I did a fresh install, and IMP was usable again. Unfortunately I lacked the time to figure out the real reason why this upgrade looked kind of broken. IIRC the logs claimed that our IMAP server didn't support TLS which was not the case.
