Hi,   If my earlier suggestions did not work, do the follwing.   After starting your computer and before linux starts loading, press ctrl+x to get into the text mode, you will see the boot: prompt, enter "linux 1" here, obvoiusly wothout the quotes.   This will log you in to single user mode and you will reach the #  prompt directly.   Now change your root password by using the passwd command, remember the password and just reboot.
