I wonder what you mean by installing them. Did you put the modules in /lib/modules/[kernel-version]/kernel/sound/pci ? > > [i also got the 0.9 rpms from freshrpms but to no > avail"] > Never blindly use kernel rpms in your distrib. Always try to recompile them just to see that all the rpm assumptions about available modules etc. is satisfied.Even though freshrpms one are generally supposed to work in virgin redhat boxes. I downloaded all the SRPMS and rebuilt them. It put the RPMS in the place given below. > then i put in the *intel8x0.* files in > /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound and recompiled th kernel > but to no avail AGAIN! I dont think the above should have worked. On my system (an Athlon VIA soundcard system), there are 7 modules other than the snd-xxx module loaded currently. > > so, could someone please tell me an exact procedure on > how to go about this? [kernel compiling etc i can > do..but is it necessary?] 1. Download the SRPMS from alsa project 2. rebuild and install them 3. Edit /etc/modules.conf according to the docs 4. Run depmod 5. use alsamixer to set your default volume, mixer settings 6. use "alsactl store" to save the settings once. 7. Play any music file to test. - Sandip P.S. I was curious about your X display on your 845 based system. Is it working properly? Seems RHL8.0 has no official support for the 845 based systems - the most common Intel based P4 mobos. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=74974 -- -------------------------------------------------------- Sandip Bhattacharya sandipb <@> bigfoot.com http://www.sandipb.net GPG/PGP: 0x08EB637C -------------------------------------------------------- ================================================ To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header.
