Hello Nitin,
Recently I was in a similar situation at bombay where I was at a
friend's place to connect my laptop to this cable-modem connecion coming
from the cablewallah.
After trying many things, I just went to netconfig and set up the dhcp
setting. I comented the lines in the /etc/resolve.conf . Restarted the
network.
All went fine and i was online in a few minutes. The eth0 took about 2
minutes to come back and everything was fine.
Also, before the above, I had to reboot the cable-modem.
