what would you do if only linux needs to be installed and the corresponding partition is to be used in windows?

A bit too complicated in my opinion.

Simply put the installation media in the CD-ROM drive
and reboot. Proceed as if installing on a clean system
and when asked what partitions you want to format
simply select the partition where your existing Linux
installations resides.

Simple and sweet.
