Hi,

ISP's donot use any Linux or forthat matter any machine directly for dialin
services.

We have a RAS ( Remote access server) as a dedicated hardware which contains
DSP cards. Each of these cards connects to the telephone company by n E1
line and acts as 30 modems.

The RAS authenticates users with the help of RADIUS software which can use
LDAP for storing of username/password via PAM authentication.

No modern ISP would use analog modems connected to a Server for Dialin
services.
