Gami, > my query is...how do i get ppp access ?? > if i write ppp or pppd at the terminal, it says command not found. also, if > on the linux machine if i login as a user and try ppp or pppd it doesnt work > saying that pppd is not setuid-root (whatever that means)
Check out a program called 'dip'. That will handle the job. It used to be part of the standard install on RHL 6.x atleast. I cant seem to find it on my mandrake 8.1 though!! Herez the url : http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/system/network/serial/dip "setuid-root", means that the program with this attribute will run AS the user root. With all the permissions and privileges of root, irrespective of who the actual user running it is. So yes, it can be a security risk! Its set by chmod +s <path/to/pppd> > > another thing i want to know is that does the login take username/password > from the unix passwd or shadow file or does it take them from pap-secrets or > chap-secrets ? You will have to make a seperate entry for every user whom you want to give ppp access, in whatever file dip uses. (dip's own filem not (pap|chap)-secrets or /etc/passwd) > also, if i try to connect from windows with the post-dial terminal screen > option disabled, then i get the "the computer you have dialled to has > disconnected u" crap. > Hmm, i guess thats because of no PAP! correct me if im wrong. > please help. > > ciao > Gami -Anks ================================================ To subscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with subscribe in subject header To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header Archives are available at http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd%40wpaa.org =================================================
