In fact some of the winmodems don't even work with win xp! But I have seen
that the motorola sm56 pci based modems came with really good drivers. You
cud use your pc speaker for the modem sounds, and you cud also see the
current modem status/connect speed, something that your can't do with most
of the external modems available nowadays.

One advantage of having an internal modem is that you don't have to bother
yourself with another component, or about power supplies. I have seen tons
of modem power supplies blow up!
