My comments on the sys config:
> 1. Intel P-4 1.7GHz CPU with 400MHz FSB/ Intel Original 850
> Motherboard/ 256MB RDRAM Memory/ P-4 Cabinet with SMPS/
Unless you are doing video editing/compression or some other app that can
eat up lots of cpu, any modern cpu > 1ghz shud be good enough. With any
modern computer, the speed depends more on the speed of your hdd and the
ammount of ram that you have! So my advice is that unless your friend wants
to use the computer for some high cpu task, it is best to go in for a 1ghz+
celeron or duron cpu. I have a 1 ghz athlon at home, and i find it fast
enough for doing real time mpeg 2 encoding using power vcr! And a friend of
mine does the same using a duron 700! But be careful with amd chips, they
need a big fan, and if the fan fails then the amd chips can very easily blow
up!

> AGP Display with 32MB/
Now with AGP displays again, the speed is dependent on the chipset used and
not in the ammount of video ram. Go in for a nvidia geforce 2 mx200/400 with
32mb/64mb ram. The most important thing with the nvidia geforce 2 mx series
of chips is the speed of the sdram chips. The typical no brand taiwaneese
graphics boards come with underrated chips. I wud recomend going in for an
asus card.

>1.44MB FDD (Panasonic/Samsung)/
is it really required nowadays, especially since there is a cdrw drive?? I
have not used my floppy drive for a long time, and now it doesn't even work!
Bootable cd roms are the way to go!

> 40GB Ultra ATA HDD (Seagate/Samsung)/
Go in for a seagate baracuda one with 7200rpm spin speeds. This is one
component that can make a major difference in speed. And nowadays the price
difference between a 7200rpm hdd and a 5400rpm is very less. Samsung hard
disks come with a 3 year warranty, but my experience with them has been
extremely bad.

> 17" Digital Color Monitor (3 years warranty)
I guess your friend wud want a flat screen monitor. Also consider a 19"
monitor. Nowadays monitors have become real cheap!

> 105 Keys Windows 98 Multimedia Internet Ready Keyboard/ Scroll Mouse/
I always buy my computer with a TVSE Gold keyboard. The cherry keys in this
keyboard seem to be virtually indestructible. My current keyboard has done 3
years of extreme action from my brother w/o any problems, and i had an older
tvse keyboard with cherry keys for 5 years.

> Multimedia Kit with full support for Video & Audio CDs comprising of
> 16X DVD Drive (Samsung)
Just make sure that the dvd rom that u get can be flashed with a region free
firmware.

>40X 20X 10X CdWriter (Acer),
Don't go in for an accer cdrw drive. I am currently using an lg 24x writer
that i got a month back, and i am very happy with it. It supports all the
clone cd modes and has excellent support for burning audio cds. This is my
second LG CDRW drive! Also for cdrw drives, you will notice that speeds >
16x the write speed depends on the type of supported media, and many of the
>16x cd writers default to writing at 16x with cheap media. Also accer
drives are known to not work properly at the max speed with most of the
media that you can find in the market :( In fact get the slowest cdrw drive
you can get (i.e 24x/32x) there is no point in spending more for a faster
drive! Also many of the cd burning tools don't support these new and fast
drives.

> 3D Full Duplex Audio (on-board) / 820W Yamaha Speakers
Consider adding a sound card with support for spdif output or 4 channel
output. DVD decoding and games can make good use of a 4.1 or 5.1 speaker
setup.

> 56KBPS Internal Modem
If your friend is going to only use windows, then an internal modem sounds
decent, but i have seen that even some of these winmodems are not supported
in win xp, so an external modem does sound nice.

> Rs. 63,800/-
Can't say much on the prices, but do consider going to nehru place with this
spec. That is the only place to trust prices!
