You can also try Xine.  This one can play mpeg, vcd  ( .dat) , dvd,  .mpv
and  .avi files.

Hi,
Try mtv. It is light and plays .dat files (VCD
format). The free version has limitations as regards
sound. Is availbla in rpm format also. Worth a try, if
you are not looking for frills.
