Where are you trying to connect to? Which ISP? Does it have a server in which authentication is done by scripts or one in which you can use PPP itself to negotiates authentication?
Some ISPs require you start ppp by hand. Some allow ppp to start automatically aftr you manually go through password prompts(which can be automated by scripts). Some allow PPP to itself negotiate the username/password. Have you tried to log into this ISP using Windoze? Does it involve you to enter username/passwords into a black box after connecting? - Sandip On Thu, Apr 04, 2002 at 08:38:53PM -0800, ashotosh kaul was caught saying: > Hello all > As varun has said i am posting the log as still ppp is > giving problem to me i am using wvdial to connect from > (redhat 7.2) the command prompt of my server and also > put "noccp" in /etc/ppp/options file well not getting > what would be the problem please help > > PPP log output > ------------------------------------------------- > Apr 5 10:05:16 server1 pppd[2239]: pppd 2.4.1 started > by root, uid 0 > Apr 5 10:05:16 server1 pppd[2239]: Using interface > ppp0 > Apr 5 10:05:16 server1 pppd[2239]: Connect: ppp0 <--> > /dev/ttyS0 > Apr 5 10:05:37 server1 pppd[2239]: LCP terminated by > peer > Apr 5 10:05:39 server1 pppd[2239]: Hangup (SIGHUP) > Apr 5 10:05:39 server1 pppd[2239]: Modem hangup > Apr 5 10:05:39 server1 pppd[2239]: Connection > terminated. > Apr 5 10:05:39 server1 pppd[2239]: Exit. > > > ------------------------------------------------------ > > > Ashutosh, > > try putting "noccp" as a keyword in /etc/ppp/options > or use it on the command line if that is how you're > invoking pppd. > > To quote from "man pppd" > > <quote> > noccp Disable CCP (Compression Control > Protocol) negotiation.
