Hi, I think you are using Lilo of older version to boot your system . The problem with that was that it could boot from within 8.4GB (I don't know exactly) of the hard disk , as the partition in which your linux is installed is not within that reach , the "some other fellow" made a new primary partition within that (8.4) reach so that lilo can find it and mounted it as
/boot In this partition is stored your loadlin and other boot information. I think this was the reason to make two primary partitions for the same OS , otherwise it is not necessary to make 2 primary partitions and that's why we mostly see /hda5 after /hda1 the other /hda2 /hda3 ..... are reserved for primary partitons only From mOhit kHullar > Hi All, > In my system (pIII,20GB HDD,128MB RAM)(linux was > installed by some other > fellow), > if I use the command "cfdisk" it shows me like this: > #cfdisk > NAME FLAGS PARTITION TYPE FILESYSTEM > TYPE LABEL MB > hda1 boot primary linux > ext-2 16 > hda4 primary win95 > FAT32(LBA) 2081 > hda5 logical win95 > FAT32 6292 > hda6 logical win95 > FAT32 4194 > hda3 primary linux > ext-2 [/] 7345 > Unusable > 432 > _______________________________________________________________________________ > 1)How come in a one OS which located in same > physical disk has two primary > partition?(hda1 and hda3) > 2)Where is the SWAP ? > 4)In this case how do I reconfigure the SWAP? > > #Whenever I have tried to "WRITE"(it does not have a > "NEW" option) partition > table in the Unusable block it shows me > "WROTE PARTITION TABLE ,BUT RE-READ TABLE FAILED > .REBOOT TO UPDATE THE > TABLE" > if I reboot also nothing happens. > Please Help me. > > > Believe in the power Linux and Google > .---. > / \ > \.@-@./ > /`\_/`\ > // _ \\ > | \ )|_ > /`\_`> <_/ \ > \__/'---'\__/ > > > And Use the PGP key to Mail me > > -----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----- > > mQGiBDvLfT0RBADMC26z9mu6TVBRtwLHZlbCWRd2ajYbri59LWa13N5FC4ItKsaL > dmrV11oP/d3aotve0YTggoCusJ45pde+x2MPFPBphg2PU1x0oC2VN5Tin18VwEzA > wbL1G/SEmS0rJPhFA7U+Qrpj8sV0mOgG0Bc3zcll8xWBXL76yLgQzFgBfwCg/4XQ > 7a9CvwiFj0Dut7OfeHWN1PcD/iIE5ghVLNdeAKuXmFgJAWXG/t07VHUt1xHwGyFj > iPijpFXw8+VuP0zbWoyAZqD111d+xptXMgwUsLgHyG8Z29YlNJLQ2xs/k0WGmmRM > dFyFsoC6kx1hkb2rVM3l5ghAXbr7mcMohPtw8Ru9SZxGTGbeZA7Zb8SNnABxyOhl > OVLAA/oC4nRHDO7bI2PbRdDErJ1Ws3p0EWUv3W3CtGlxZ7GkDBIq21eanAOWwvwM > O0iCv0CI4rK4eWNQL8buSt3AR7nSPIWAecn+dlyVacGsm0JH+Z+bIS8pCjtQ+S5z > GynpUBYh2/YKvjYSWSlN9fsjT1A9gcaK5Z0zT7UymH7GE5axpbQeTGludXggPGxp > bnV4ZGVsaGlAaG90bWFpbC5jb20+iQBYBBARAgAYBQI7y309CAsDCQgHAgEKAhkB > BRsDAAAAAAoJEMTxRb9jlHgIsloAnjxz9gA9fVI145VS/chKUWzJqJivAJ9Imz0W > +alzWpU5n9jAqgIz33VcVIkARgQQEQIABgUCO8t96wAKCRDoeJ2TUCv4B6XYAJ9J > 8IW8zoSttuOcxjVciFAJY+ohdACfW0H5wjubn0jrXNkA6Wv30MUwzsq5Ag0EO8t9 > PRAIAPZCV7cIfwgXcqK61qlC8wXo+VMROU+28W65Szgg2gGnVqMU6Y9AVfPQB8bL > Q6mUrfdMZIZJ+AyDvWXpF9Sh01D49Vlf3HZSTz09jdvOmeFXklnN/biudE/F/Ha8 > g8VHMGHOfMlm/xX5u/2RXscBqtNbno2gpXI61Brwv0YAWCvl9Ij9WE5J280gtJ3k > kQc2azNsOA1FHQ98iLMcfFstjvbzySPAQ/ClWxiNjrtVjLhdONM0/XwXV0OjHRhs > 3jMhLLUq/zzhsSlAGBGNfISnCnLWhsQDGcgHKXrKlQzZlp+r0ApQmwJG0wg9ZqRd > QZ+cfL2JSyIZJrqrol7DVekyCzsAAgIIAJYCLZguCdh3bM4HHnSja45To11TKwxO > AzLblXsqt/IS0m4rg/yGjWGjc8Teronrtft7th2YlHNUPUzetQ05Oir8eIoXa1HD > COlIh4eDYby80x8xzJzRB+tMafBlwLqZvgyljHZLxcYVvAcPgDdZNMYe5gMdat2e > 8sNuwbEKCG9dbtr33qq5+ve4lMpGnvJDCWB3/6gyKvEnIdBPmKr0p1LL48HNQZqe > IqQwsbVUhbZxSA//qZB0orWPwoQL9TZmDhS7sR1nIFEIGlxx0N4zurc2FHxLzFRd > whPvPrR4890H6ij8tMaTHBLr3ATO1bUlYR/6IH8bhdQechcRuXvpSfWJAEwEGBEC > AAwFAjvLfT0FGwwAAAAACgkQxPFFv2OUeAjlPACcCc4fHZKcKvHdvHE1PTWFcC6B > 6nMAn2q9h/nnQuzlVeBFBuKf1oP7TFyf > =etjE > -----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----- > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: > http://messenger.msn.com > > > ================================================ > To subscribe, send email to > with subscribe in subject header > To unsubscribe, send email to > with unsubscribe in subject header > Archives are available at > http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd%40wpaa.org > > ================================================= > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
