Hi, Had the opportunity to give a guest lecture at IMT on Wednesday the 6th. I talked about the growth of the Free Software movement, Linux and Licenses. Was pleasantly surprised at the audience response -- lots of enthusiasm.
Subsequent to that we (the IMT students, their Prof and I) had a longish discussion on what we could do to promote Linux and related technologies at IMT. They have large MCA groups and we all felt that with a bit of work all these people could be Linux enthusiasts and advocates once they pass out of college. Some of the ideas discussed were: - Holding a LUG meet at IMT (it's way out in Ghaziabad, but we can carpool and get there somehow :-) They have offered their large halls, audi's or lecture rooms, and whetever infrastructure we need. There's a canteen which serves cold tea and hot colas not far away too :-) - Including Linux and/or Unix admin in their regular MCA curriculum. Currently they do hardly any POSIX stuff as part of their course. It'd be great if some people from nearby areas (East Delhi, NOIDA, etc) could talk to IMT about drafting and conducting a 1-semester module on Linux system administration. You get paid per lecture, of course. - Participating in their WizByte program, first week of March. I've booked a 1/2 day for ILUG-Delhi, and already have 2 confirmed speakers (Kishore and I :-) Please come up with some suggestions for talks and/or demos which you'd like to do. The audience will be from technical and management colleges all across the country. - Informal lectures at IMT on Linux from time to time. I feel this is a great opportunity to acquaint people with Linux at the right time. Once we have enough momentum in the group we can extend this to other institutions too.
