If you think of only desktop two data point: I have administered HA Cluster in a PHB manufacturing factory (aka Management Institute awarding MBA's). no issues. 100+ seats I have deployed netbeans a fairly decent IDE for development, god know in how many seats, perhaps hundreds.... for a state govt. related project. I lost count of the number of server room and data center visits that I had during last 8+ years I have been enabling linux for over 8+ years in various corporate and business environs. google, yahoo, facebook, twitter etc. etc. etc. uses linux on backend while morons use proprietary clients. Surely and evidently, they know technology. Almost every one of us as had the experience of this question arising in our mind at some point of time at least one in our linux using career.
