Hi, Balachandran, I'm sorry if you felt that my email was harsh but these are things that I needed to say. I agree that I should have been more vocal in our advertisement for internship. I did not mention that they would be working on an open source project because many of these students carry a false notion of FOSS. Some think its equivalent of working with an NGO and they will never make enough money ever. So we had decided to keep that information under wraps till the time of the interviews.
We simply sell our software. Thats what our business model is. Thats how we keep the Gods happy. And patenting the software is just to keep us safe from the mammoths like IBM, MS, or SAP, who we compete with. But we also try to give back to the FOSS community, that we have relied on so heavily till this day. We are starting another initiative where we are going to open our office on the weekends for FOSS enthusiasts who want to meet like minded people contribute to any open source project on Search/Data Mining/Machine Learning (our areas of work, as the passion to learn is the only ROI here).
