I dunno. Popularity does not mean anything more than that it is usable
and functional.

Number of virtual hosts? I dunno. I would  think that this is
dependent on your RAM .

Qemu is really very fast and is resource friendly.

Qemu is also immensely reliable.

I am sure people find Vmware also reliable or else it would not be so popular.

That is all I can tell.
