I have tried android 2.2 (froyo) on IBM Thinkpad R51 (Centrino 1.6, 512 MB
RAM) on a live cd. I also tried it in a HP nc6400 (Core Duo, 3 GB RAM). On both
the computers it ran fine, except for dialing, which killed the phone service
(due to obvious reasons). Generally, it was fast and responsive. We can use it
as a test bed for app development and also for testing android before investing
in a device. The live cd is only 86 MB in size. They even have an option for
installing it to your hard-drive, although I didn't test it. Being a touch
based interface, it was a bit awkward to use a pointing device. Maybe some day
we can have android running as a quick-boot OS for netbooks (aka splashtop). I
also noticed that Android may be considered practically the first OS, to use
Linux w/o the GNU system. So, maybe when talking about Android, using Linux
rather than GNU/Linux is better. :-D
P.S.: It failed to run on my AMD system, due to graphics problems.
