I got the same problem couple of days ago and BSNL's weird configuration was
preventing me from connecting to wireless.

Connect via wired connection and access the router [192.168.1.1] -> Wireless
[under configuration]

You'll see four options in the wireless configuration page - Basic |
Advanced | Mac Address Filtering | <I don't remember the fourth>

Click on Mac Address Filtering, you'll see an option called 'Mac Auth'
something. Make sure that is set to 'Disabled' & you should be good to go.

[if set to Whitelist, then only the specified ip's can access; if set to
Blacklist, then any ip's other than the specified ones can access]

Hope this solves your problem.

Oh, btw I assume you have Teracom type modem.
