hi, thanks to all who answered my questions, I bought a HP deskjet F4488. It scans, copies and prints both colour and black. I plugged it in, went to kwrite, clicked on 'print' - it recognised it as Hp 4400 series and printed without a murmur. Then I clicked on scan - it scanned. No need to install or configure anything. Copier of course does not need the computer. The print is a bit hazy - I think I went about aligning the cartridges wrong. Distro fedora 12.
