I have come across cases where in case of a major ext3 filesystem
corruption corruption, fsck would take days ( 1.5 TB took about 5 days
, 5 TB took 21 days ) to complete . This is one of the major drawbacks
of ext3 on huge filesystem which scale in TB's . XFS and ext4 would
perform much better in such cases . Also I think it would be worth
mentioning that Red Hat has introduced ext4 as a Tech Preview in
RHEL5.4 :
