Freedom or security is classic case of false dichotomy. The answer

Can you share your thoughts on how to achieve both w/o any compromise in
either?
Somebody has to tell me why, freedom of users via access to source code
should lead to security compromises from "hackers". Techniques like
public key cryptography or the process of peer review isn't exactly new.
