Filtering host/service lists by output or even long output fields in Icinga Web 2 (IDO DB) works fine and is very fast. A database doesn't get nervous if you attempt to wildcard search on a text field without any index even if there are tens of thousands of rows. Things start to get worse when millions of rows are involved or when the schema forces you to do weird joins - what is fortunately mostly not the case for simple host/service lists.
