Hello Martin,

the amount of traffic surely will depend on the amount of hosts and services
configured for your satellite zone.
Here are some stats from my setup:

Satellite with 40 hosts / 273 services: ~28 MB / hour
Satellite with 15 hosts / 53 services: ~10 MB / hour

Roughly i'd calculate 100-150 KB of traffic per checkable object per hour, but
this might vary depending on a lot of different factors, check scheduling, the
amount of state changes, how much output your monitoring plugins produce etc.

Hope that helps..

Regards,
Markus

Subject: [icinga-users] distributing load to geographic locations

Hello,
I have two locations, one in Europe, second in US and in both there are servers
which needs to be monitored.

The connection between Europe and US is a VPN tunnel and the top priority is to
keep the traffic related to monitoring through this tunnel as low as possible.
How can I achieve that with Icinga2?

Let's say I have a icinga2 master in Europe and on the US side is a satellite
icinga2 instance (is this correct term?) in its own zone, with the Europe
master as the parent.

The US zone gets the configuration synced from master.
Now, the US satellite is performing all the monitoring checks and everything,
so what will be the traffic through the VPN tunnel?
Database connection for sending results back to the Europe master server? What
else?

Could you estimate the network load? Do you have any experience with such
scenario?

Thanks a lot guys!
