Is it feasible have to make this change or may be a bug in the package?
I had to do similar adjustments with the configuration files provided by
the Debian packages. Perhaps they are all sorted out by now. I just
haven't upgraded them to avoid the breakage until the packages "mature"
so to speak. It's all very fresh you know. ;)
Thanks for sharing your experience. Maybe it's good that Michael or
anyone else of Icinga Development Team tells us about the state of this
to know if we will not have to be aware of this change after doing an
upgrade.

The only real problem is the xml configuration syntax users generally
deny to understand. Most errors are sourced from that matter.

The Debian packages for Icinga web have been stable for years now, and
that did not change. If you fear that a package overrides configuration
below /etc/... fire up a test vm/container, reproduce the issue and
notify the packager of that being a bug.

Not sure why Simon comes to that conclusion, but user's experiences
mostly differ in many cases. I consider Icinga Web, and generally Icinga
1.x, mature and stable.

If you really don't trust packages pushing configuration, you really
should use config management tools such as puppet, or at least, a scm
allowing to revert unwanted changes. But that's beyond Icinga's scope.

Michael
