There were other ESMs.
I'm aware of at least two.
One was Deadbolt from JMenterprises (or so). One of Deadbolt developers is member of IBM-MAIN (maybe more, I know one). The second product was PIES. It was polish product. I don't think it was in use outside of Poland.
