Thanks Kees. When there are lots of outstanding WTORs for all the IMS and other 
subsystems it can flood the console and you don't see other messages going by. 
In my code example I make them non-display so they never actually apprear on 
the console, but it means that I could have 47 invisible WTORs waiting for a 
response.

A perpetual outstanding WTOR is one way of enabling communication with an 
application, another one is MODIFY. It is just how the application has been 
designed. 
IMS has a WTOR outstanding for that reason, so if you have many IMSs in a 
Sysplex, you have as many outstanding WTORs. Add up some other occasional or 
long(er) term WTORs, the list can grow fast, which is quite irritating on the 
operator console. 
Back to the question, there is no limit on how long a WTOR can be outstanding, 
but there is a limit on the total number of outstanding WTORs in a sysplex. See
