They are probably referring to a z, but doing it in such a way as to
totally disparage it. The fact that the z13 is the fastest microprocessor
currently existed just doesn't penetrate their mind because the original
S/360 was designed in the 1960s.

All the comments in this thread, in addition to this particular story,
really make me wonder if CSC (our "cloud sourcer" and "IT department
replacement?") is really going to be able to take our current z/OS
processing and port it to some sort of cloud based system, cost
efficiently. From rumors that I've heard, our users have already raised
some voracious objections because, according to them, the "new" system
would take a week to do what we currently do in a day. In insurance, paying
valid claims quickly is a big plus when you're a small company.

As another said in this thread, our z/OS system is COBOL / CICS based and
uses VSAM. Worse, we had some very clever programmers who wrote code which
actually reads the data in some VSAM AIX data sets (not via the PATH, but
the AIX itself as if it were a regular VSAM data set) to do some of the
processing more quickly (i.e. have an AIX on a field, then read the AIX
itself to answer the question "how many customers have this value in that
field?", equivalent of SELECT COUNT(field) FROM database WHERE field='SOME
VALUE').
