Ah yes, the PIN. That has confounded me in the past. But I had the impression 
that all consoles were PINned, not just the NIP console. A console can be 
removed with IEARELCN, but before z/OS 2.1, an IPL is required to redefine it. 
I have not explored the new function in 2.1 to (re)define a console on the fly, 
which I regard as crucial for full system availability.

Hello Skip,

one thing to remember, as NIP consoles are PINNED they cannot be manipulated 
via DYNAMIC IODF Activations.

Knowing they are PINNED may be the in to identify NIP consoles.
Nothing I have ever done, but may be possible through control block searches.
