​I will quibble with you over the word "can". I will agree that it most
likely "won't", but so long as IBM supplies the source when requested, then
it legally "can" be incorporated into z/OS as a part of UNIX
infrastructure.​

​It is integrated into almost every Linux distribution in existence, even
the ones such as RHEL which require licensing fees.​
