Instructions counts are captured only on machines that have the appropriate support. I view that data as, more or less, an experiment.
If and when they are deemed worthy of being an analog of CPU time, additional support would be provided. >Hopefully, they are not counting time spent resolving page faults and >such that _validly_ belong in "uncaptured" time today. It appears that the "Hopefully" is not part of the current implementation. But it would be part of any complete implementation.
