It uses FBA disks currently, so without an emulator, you
need this hardware or similar:

Cisco MDS 9148T - but maybe 9132T would be cheaper
(alternatively a CA Broadcom could be used)

Optica PRIZM FICON to ESCON adapter

FSI FLEXCUB PCI card to emulate an FBA disk control unit

An industrial desktop with a PCI (not PCIe) slot for the FLEXCUB

Or alternatively you should be able to use z/VM.

An alternative CKD option is expected to be available in due
course - z/PDOS (very different from z/PDOS-generic) which
already uses CKD disks, will be updated to include MVS-style
update mode (which is what z/OS PCDOS is using), and then
z/PDOS-generic (aka z/Windows) can run under z/PDOS.

z/PDOS has been proven to run on real hardware already.
