Because there are too many control block dependencies, and too many applications assuming a maximum of 100.
The swing is one of two cartoons that every programmer should have on his door* to remind him of what matters. The other is an episode <https://jhs-shop.com/products/copy-of-wizard-of-id-print-pillage-then-burn> of the Wizard of Id <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Id> * There used to be a type of enclosed space called an office. Its entrance could be closed with a rectangular slab called a door, and it used to be common for people to opst things on their office doors. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) IEBGENER, which is certainly documented in "DFSMSdfp Utilities" does not seem to treat column 72 specially. When I first encountered MVS, my mentors lauded the quality. I no no longer find this true. I believe they were thing]king of PLMs and HIPOs. Long ago, a co-worker submitted an RFE to have the 100-characrer PARM limit relaxed. IBM countered with an idea resembling PARMDD. That did not happen soon. Much later, BPXBATCH provided STDPAFM instead. Even later, PARMDD was finally implemented with its own concatenation conventions and restrictions (PARMDD can not supply a PARM ending with a blank.) Why didn't IBM do the obvious and allow a longer PARM= on the exec statement as requested? <https://www.businessballs.com/local/pix/businessballs/treeswing/tree-swing-s-hogh.jpg> -- gil ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
