If you want to learn stuff about the system another good thing to have is ShowMVS (or ShowzOS as it is sometimes called). It can show you lots of stuff about the zOS system. The last place I worked at we ran it as part of the IPL process. The output was put in a dataset so we have a picture of how the system looked after an IPL.
