Thank you for detailed explanation.
I did not write about volume categories, I thought it is obvious. Yes,
we have separate categories for each sysplex (or monoplex).
Everything is working OK in my shop, however I was told the RMM has to
be active on every LPAR/image even if no tape activity is performed and
the reason is insert volumes process.
It is cumbersome to test (and clean up) so I prefer to ask rather than
reinvent the wheel.
Last but not least I could swear I had it solved in my former life
(job). However I cannot remain what parameters were the clou. I guess it
is something in EDGPRMxx, because it is the only place. OAM, volcat,
IODF - I believe it's not there.

Hi,
I'll just try to speak from my own experience.
1. Range of volser is not enough
2. VTS/VTL is seems to the z/OS as 3494 library and as such it is
partitioned for each Operating system (LPAR) on z by the Categories numbers
in the
PARMLIB member DEVSUP
3.Category numbers are set in the TS7700 in the Management Interface (MI)
4.Also system EXIT CBRUXENT should be enabled in z/OS (LPAR) if you want
this system to have the Inserted volumes
5. Please pay attention to the fact that each Tape Management System (like
RMM) install it own CBRUXENT version)
6. As mentioned by other CBRUXENT should be disabled in LPARs you do not
want to have those inserted volumes
7.By the way, other Operating System like z/VM, z/VSE, z/TPF and zLinux
each has different behaviour in the side of the Operating system,
the side of the TS7700 is of course the same and it is oblivious to the
type of the Operating System
There are several IBM redbooks which describe in detail the above and can
help alot.
From my own experience, it is not ban ban and done.
It is a small project which requires some understanding of the relationship
of the OAM/RMM and the VTS/VTL (TS7700).
Good luck,

Yes, we have dedicated volser ranges and REJECTs.
However the RMM have to be active on every LPAR/image connected to the
VTS. Otherwise the insert hangs up.

A dedicated volser range. TST??? from test LPAR only.

The following scenario:
VTS system connected to multiple z/OS images, each system has it's own
volcat, RMM CDS, etc.
Issue: the RMM has to be active on every LPAR, otherwise there are
problems with volume insert process.
So, even sandbox system with no tape activity must have RMM active.
Q: Is there any method to not have active RMM on every system connected
to the VTS?
I guess it would be sufficient to disconnect the LPAR from the RMM (CF
CHP or VARY PATH OFFLINE), however I vaguely remain I did it in the old
times of 3494 and physical carts. Unfortunately I have no notes about
it.
