Wayne, Isn't this assuming that the first 4 columns are character and you are embedding the quotes ? Also did you delete off the first 2 records (the headers and column attributes) ? I believe Op's requirement is to determine the column attributes based on the 2nd record of the file and add quotes based on the requirement.
