If you have DB2 you will still have DFSORT. Just a smaller version to support DB2 functions
If you do not have DB2 then SYNCSORT is an alternative. What version of DFSORT and z/OS are you running? Having used by DFSORT and SYNCSORT, there are functions that both do well. It will depend on your requirements as to which you will use.
