I asked him how many compiles he had run today for this 100% unauthorized "side work" and he responded, "Maybe a dozen or so?"

He seemed genuinely surprised to learn he had run 112 such compiles that day alone. His response to that was, "Well, that does seem a bit excessive."

Not only were his extracurricular activities a clear violation of company policy, his assigned work project was weeks late and full of bugs. He had no time to waste.

Needless to say, this individual no longer works for PSI...
