Hi, zIIP is not free, and isn't even an available upgrade for the client running a z13s. It's an option for the one running the z15, but the cost is prohibitive.
My point is that IBM is providing an entry level for customers, but that entry level cannot execute z/OSMF. These two sites are hardly the only ones running a single CPU small processor, in fact I know they aren't for sure, but IBM has sold them a processor and even though that processor is fully supported, it doesn't support z/OSMF and you won't be able to install z/OS after the beginning of the year without suing z/OSMF, so they will be stuck at 2.4 (where they are now) or 2.5 if they elect to order it in the couple of months before Serverpac goes away. That's a very bad way to do business. These clients will probably end up filing against IBM, since one of them is a government agency. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
