Once you have the CHPID online, you may have to vary the paths online.  I'll 
leave it to you to find the command.  If the problem is with the device or the 
cable, varying the path won't do anything, but if everything is hooked up 
properly, you may get the path online by doing that.  

Depending on how many paths the devices have, having 1 more online can make a 
big difference.  If you have 4 paths, maybe not noticeable, but if you have 
only 2 paths it could make a huge difference.  Of course a lot depends on how 
many I/O's are being done by the device.
