Maybe not directly related, but on the Lucene development list a discussion started about doing more frequent releases:

Funny enough one of the reasons for not doing releases so often seem to be issues with the release process. Maybe they should mavenize the their built ;-) Regarding the work I am doing now. I will clean up what I have and commit it. Initially without any renaming.
