I don't know about guix specifically, but in case it can be useful, I have emacs do backups of the last 199 versions of each document it saves, including the literate configuration files. In my case, emacs.init just calls 3 literate config files: - a general emacs one (repos, variables, helm, agenda, custom  scripts, etc.)

What have you got in your emacs configuration that it saves not only one but many versions...?

All of those are in a Nextcloud directory, so all versions are saved. It saved me more than once... ;)
