Agreed!

Two things we did in the past in an attempt to reduce misunderstandings
in this area are:

  1. Adding ‘--delete-generations’ to ‘guix gc’ itself (previously you
had to use ‘guix package --delete-generations’ and ‘guix pull
--delete-generations’ to wipe generations of these profiles
specifically, and for each profile you may have).

  2. Displaying a hint inviting you to run ‘guix gc
--delete-generations=1m’ when disk space is low (see
     ‘warn-about-disk-space’ in the source).

  3. Adding a button in GNOME’s low-disk-space notification to run ‘guix
     gc’ (see ‘gnome-settings-daemon-gc.patch’).

I think this has helped somewhat clarify the situation for newcomers,
but maybe we can do more in this direction?

Thanks,
Ludo’.
