That shouldn't be a problem. The largest CFengine installation I've run only had 50 hosts, and that had negligible impact on the server. The only time you could see anything happening on the server was when the binaries got updated and all clients started to download new binaries. >From what I've learned from Mark Burgess is that a single server can scale up >to several thousand clients. However, this of course makes that server a single point of failure in your setup and it is better to have several servers. That could be distribution servers which on their turn copy the policy from a master server, or a bunch of master servers who all get their configuration from shared storage.
