Neil, Clearly I am not getting my message out, sorry for that. So here a simpler attempt: I have a management host that needs to pull files from different host in order to perform a bunch of management operation. Some files can be pulled in base on the dns entry of a physical host (i.e. hostA, hostB, ....) not a problem Some files can only be pulled in from a server running an application with its well know dns entry and IP adress. That application can run on hostA or hostB or HostC. The management server does not know on which host the application is running aside from using in its copy operation the dns name of the application. (that is where the problem lies) Hope this is clear, Marco, p.s.
