The diff between beta3 and the actual devel is huge and it seems to me a no sense wasting time to merge them or worse release a 1.0 that's so different in lib and dir names from the actual devel. I think we could simply copy the actual devel branch ( if it's considered stable from the developers ) to beta4, warn about the differences and move on. I agree that release numbers means almost nothing in the OSS world but 1.0 is SPECIAL. It means the project consider the code ready for "outside world".
