Let me complete your answer, as for "2.5 Upgrading Guix":

    sudo -i guix pull

In previous reference there is an interesting discussion on how to use
the guix-daemon provided by Guix, even when using the local package
manager to install it. Worth a look for people using Guix on top of a
foreign distribution.
