I agree that it’s a downside of forges that one has to (1) create an
account and (2) agree to the terms of services of said forge.  This will
eventually be mitigated by federation but we’re not there yet.
Self-hosting has a cost that I think we’re not ready to pay, but I’m
happy to reconsider if we see an influx of volunteers to take care of
it.

Some general comments:

I admit I did not read the Codeberg ToS yet, so thanks for doing it.
I think the us-vs-they framing in your message is inappropriate though:
we’re talking about a non-profit of like-minded people that we can
actually talk to (we had a chat with them over the weekend at FOSDEM).
So I think we should ask for clarifications, raise any concerns that we
have, and see how to address them.
