Here for "guile -s io-perf.scm > /dev/null" I see: 2.2.4: 1.39 mb/s >100% CPU in top your first proposal: 1453.49 mb/s >300% CPU in top this series: 3937.01 mb/s <80% CPU in top (and most importantly for this series, a much quieter fan...) And yes, I'd love to see something like this in 2.2 too if it turns out to be feasible to include it there.
