Is it possible to download the entire history?  I once cloned a git
repository for a public-inbox, thinking that it would look like a
maildir or an mbox, but it looks like every mail removes the previous
one (or something weird).

I see

IMAP subfolder(s) are available under:
  imap://;AUTH=anonym...@inbox.sourceware.org/inbox.sourceware.libc-alpha
  # each subfolder (starting with `0') holds 50K messages at most

which might be easier to use than the git repo.
